Brass

Brass (known locally as Kuningan) is a versatile non-ferrous alloy made primarily of copper and zinc. Unlike the stainless steel grades previously discussed, brass contains no iron, making it completely immune to rust while offering exceptional machinability and electrical conductivity.

Available Shapes:

Product Overview

Key Technical Specifications

PropertyDetails
Common FormsSolid round bars (As Kuningan), hex bars, sheets and plates
Chemical CompositionTypically 60%–70% Copper and 30%–40% Zinc (often with trace elements like lead to improve machinability).
Common GradesC3604 (Free-cutting brass, ideal for CNC machining) and C2680 (highly ductile, ideal for sheets and stamping).

Main Properties & Characteristics

PropertyDetails
Zero Rusting
It cannot rust because it contains no iron, though it will form a green/brown protective patina layer over time when exposed to air.
Extreme MachinabilityIt is significantly softer than stainless steel (201/304/316), making it the easiest metal to cut, drill, thread, and mill.
Low Friction & Anti-Sparking
It has very low friction against other metals and does not create sparks when struck, making it safe for explosive environments.
Highly ConductiveExcellent conductor of both heat and electricity, far outperforming all stainless steel grades.
Aesthetic AppealFeatures a bright, gold-like appearance that polishes to a high shine for decorative use.

Common Industrial Applications

Because of its unique mechanical and spark-free properties, brass is heavily used for:
